The successful candidate must be available to work 8 hour shifts with flexibility to cover additional shifts as required. Please note schedule may change due to operational needs.

Job Summary

• Oversee the surgical waiting room to ensure patient flow and patients are in the appropriate location
• Direct patients to the change room and provide them with instructions on donning the appropriate OR attire
• Place patient belongings on the designated cart in the day surgery area
• Wipe down touch surfaces in the change area after each patient use
• Clean and make stretchers and other equipment as per hospital policies
• Assist with transport of stretchers to the OR hallway
• Escort discharge patients to the front entrance (walking or via wheelchair)
• Maintain confidentiality
• Assists patients, caregivers and visitors with directions to their intended destination
• Instructs and supports patients and caregivers on hand hygiene and donning and doffing masks as required
• Other duties as directed by the nursing staff to support patient care and patient flow.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Successful completion of a high school diploma
• Availability to work a variety of shifts 
• Willingness  to stand for extended periods of time
• Willingness to wear protective apparel (mask, gloves and gowns)
• Demonstrated strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
• Thoroughness and attention to detail
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Problem solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with a variety of people in a team environment
• Second language(s) is an asset
• Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
• Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
• Acceptable performance and attendance records
