Reporting to the Director, Facilities, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the boilers, compressors, diesel generation, pumps and cooling towers and related equipment at Headwaters Healthcare Centre, to ensure a reliable supply of utilities to the hospital. The Maintenance Mechanic takes a team approach to ensure there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of secondary school diploma.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a maintenance department preferably in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of Energy Conservation Initiatives
  • Experience in millwrighting, pipefitting and/or other trades is preferred
  • Experience in HVAC is preferred
  • Experience with Preventative Maintenance and Work Order System
  • Computer skills, including Windows based systems
  • Good working knowledge of Building Automation Systems and Controls
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and electrical maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of water treatment and chemical testing.
  • Spatial perception is required to read blueprints, specifications and manuals of installation.
  • Numerical ability to assist in estimates for construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to communicate verbally or in writing with all staff and contractors.
