For over 20 years, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH), Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) have been in partnership sharing a Meditech Health Information System (HIS). This group has come to be known as the “Regional IT Partnership”.
The primary purpose of this partnership is to improve patient safety and quality of care by promoting, implementing and maintaining a one patient, one record vision through a single shared HIS. The Regional IT Partnership has identified information and technology as a key pillar to support a safe and efficient patient experience while driving clinical excellence. Building on the existing regional partnership, the organizations are preparing for the fully approved implementation of Meditech Expanse ~ a new health information system that will help the hospitals expand their reach and better connect patient care across the continuum. This is the largest regional patient care quality and safety initiative in the history of these organizations.
In this newly created permanent leadership role, the Chief Information Officer of the Regional IT Partnership (CIO) will be instrumental in the implementation of a new Hospital Information System, Meditech Expanse (HIS) - a complex, large scale transformation which will support the achievement of the organizations’ strategic goals of improved patient safety and quality of care. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer at RVH, the CIO will have accountability to all four partner hospitals through their respective Presidents and Chief Executive Officers. This is an exciting new permanent role, where the successful candidate will need to drive results and effectively lead the development of the integrated information management strategy amongst a multi-partner collaborative. He/she will work collaboratively with teams across all four organizations along with the CEOs, CMIOs and executive sponsors to maximize and optimize the value of the clinical system to drive safety and quality for patients and users to advance the digital health strategy for the partnership.
Key leadership priorities for the CIO will be to:
▪ Champion the organizational transformation of a regional Health Information System implementation.
▪ Provide leadership to the Regional IT Partnership for the development and execution of the digital health strategy, providing direction for a broad and complex multi-stakeholder change initiative, from design through to execution, adoption and sustainability.
▪ Collaborate with a range of stakeholders, ensuring effective health system engagement and the development and sustainability of collaborative regional partnerships.
▪ Ensure efficient project management principles and practices, and IT governance structures are in place to manage a highly demanding project, on time and within budget.
The successful candidate will have at least seven to ten years senior level strategic and operational IT leadership experience operating in health care and/or a similarly complex environment/sector. This is a newly created role that requires someone that has a demonstrated track record in successful, large-scale information technology system implementation (preferably in health care), executive-level leadership and project governance, organizational change management, team building and coordinated execution. Further, the candidate will embody excellence in customer service, collaboration, commitment to high quality communications and be highly effective at stakeholder engagement.
